Spiritual Exploration

My curiosity about your spirituality…

Spirituality is such a personal thing. It’s difficult to put into general terms what it might look like for a client to explore their spiritual experience, but I’ll try my best!

If spirituality is something you’re interested in exploring, I would first be curious to know what role it’s played in your life until now and what role you would like it to play in the future.

Then, of course, I would like to know what the word “spirituality” means to you. Is it something that feels safe/unsafe, protective/exposing, comforting/anxiety-inducing… hopeful/hopeless?

The list is endless when it comes to the way…

…you might think about the world and spirituality, and I would be delighted to discover what it all means to you.

Perhaps we’d consider how spirituality might help you feel the sense of connection you’ve been seeking in your everyday life.

Perhaps we’d explore different religions that you’re curious about to see if one feels like a fit. Perhaps you feel more like spirituality is a purely personal experience that you want to practice on your own terms, in your own space.

Perhaps you’re interested in plants and earth magic.

Perhaps you’re interested in the realm of spirits and death.

Perhaps you believe there is one higher power. Perhaps you call that higher power God. Perhaps you call it Spirit. Perhaps it has a gender, or perhaps it doesn’t. Perhaps you feel it is purely protective and guided by love. Perhaps you feel it is the source of reward and punishment…

The beauty of exploring spirituality…

… is that it’s about finding the truth that feels meaningful for you.

There’s no diagnostic tool we can use to know that you fit best with X religion… practicing A, B and C rituals. It’s not like addressing well-known, clear mental health concerns, such as anxiety or depression, where we have a huge book of diagnoses we can refer to that might list some of the symptoms you’re experiencing.

Spirituality is yours to create the way you want to.

This all may sound super amorphous and intangible… and that can feel really hopeful for some people, while it may feel discouraging for others. It may also feel kind of overwhelming and confusing. These emotions, or whatever you might be feeling while reading this, are totally normal.

Here’s what you can trust…

If you’re feeling a need to explore what spirituality may look like for you, you don’t have to do it alone. We can incorporate it into our therapy in a way that can make it feel doable, tangible, meaningful, and important.

You can also start exploring and decide to scrap it and say, “No, thanks!” That is also a totally acceptable option. It’s all entirely up to you.

Let’s explore what this might look like for YOU…

Now, I’ll reiterate again that this may seem hard to grasp with so little clear detail as to the A-Z procedure for learning about spirituality (because there is no A-Z procedure for exploring spirituality).

For a lot of clients, believing in something that isn’t tangible and evidence-based is scary. We live in a world that is so unbelievably focused on science and research and facts and what we can KNOW for sure. And the fact is that research and science have been incredible tools for modern advances in all kinds of areas, including science, medicine, technology, etc.

The thing is, we’re not robots. We will never have evidence to explain every single phenomenon in life, in our bodies, in our world. What would it be like to let go of the vice grip we have on our need for facts and data, and instead float a bit on a cloud of faith?

If you’ve been wondering if there’s more to life… more to the world and existence, and you’d like to explore that, I am absolutely here for it.
